Medium Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) Project Background
The life span of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017-2020 and Nigeria Vision 20:2020 are both coming to an end in December, 2020. To this end, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning has commenced the process of developing the successor plans – The “Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2021-2025” and “Nigeria Agenda (NA) 2050” to replace the two plans respectively. The roadmap, which will ensure that the new plans are ready at the end of the year as well as the required institutional framework for smooth organisation of the process of producing the two plans, have been put in place.
Through previous planning effort, the current administration led by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has projected three core objectives and themes to focus the development of the country. These objectives are: Efficient Security: Government will continue to focus on enhancing the capability of its security architecture to prevent and tackle internal and external threats. The priority remains to eliminate or minimise insurgency, communal clashes, vandalism and all forms of egregious criminal conduct, such as banditry and kidnapping. Fight Against Corruption: Government will sustain the fight against corruption by addressing systemic failures that foster corruption. There will be a focus on transparency in Government and on enacting legislation to enable speedy dispensation of justice, and on strengthening the institutional capacity of anti-corruption agencies.
Grow The Economy: Government will continue efforts to improve the economy and achieve sustained and inclusive growth of at least 7% of GDP per annum while creating jobs massively across different sectors of the economy. The objective of the MTNDP 2021 – 2025 Plan is to create a plan that is further aligned with the above core objectives and to specify detailed activities towards the realisation of those objectives. This National Plan is set to therefore steer the direction of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the next five (5) and thirty years (30) respectively.
